With this year's New York Auto Show underway, Audi unveiled, to the public-eye, their plan for the new 2019 RS5 Sportback. Shown sporting a beautiful metallic Sonoma Green paintjob, Audi is looking for this 5-door coupe to fill the niche for folks who want great functionality without the sacrifice of performance. Not to mention, the RS5 Sportback will be making it's way to America in place of the much desired RS4 Avant. It's tough for US-based car enthusiasts, but it's understandable as the wagon segment in America is virtually non-existent. With this model, Audi is hoping for an even bigger market potential to rake in more of that sweet profit.

When I mentioned this model won't be sacrificing performance, that was no joke. The RS5 Sportback, being a RS trim, will be powered by a 2.9-liter, twin-turbo V6 TFSI engine which will produce 444 HP and a peak torque of 443 lb-ft. The standard model allows for a sub-four second 0-60 time while being able to top out at 155 MPH (249 KMPH), however, buyers can always opt in for the Dynamic Plus package which increases the limit to a mind-boggling 174 MPH (280 KMPH). Much like other cars out today, the RS5 Sportback will cycle through it's gears with a sporty eight-speed automatic transmission. All this will function on top of Audi's famously known Quattro AWD system.

Most of the exterior shares similarities with two-door counterpart but has some notable differences. Mostly the headlights with vents on the side, which appear to be darker, giving it a much more menacing vibe. The front will feature a large honeycomb grille fitted with a proper RS5 badge and the entire body has been widened by 15 mm compared to the S5 Sportback. The rear comes fitted with a RS5-specific diffuser and large oval exhaust tips, allowing the car the fully breathe. In addition, many black parts are fitted in various areas of the car such as the rear-lip spoiler. However, if the look isn't preferable, buyers have the choice to swap with carbon-fiber, matte aluminum, or high-gloss black. Lastly, the interior upholds Audi's luxurious reputation and comes with honeycomb-style RS Sport seats and various other tech goodies such as a unique RS5 virtual cockpit. Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto are also available as a standard.

Expect the 2019 RS5 Sportback to make appearances in both US and Canada later this year with Europe to follow shortly after. Although pricing is yet to be announced, buyers can make their estimates based on the pricing of the S5 Coupe.
