The Lexus LF-LC Concept first debuted in 2012 and it looked rather promising. It vowed to deliver stability, high-performance, and dynamic driving capabilities. Four years later, the production version is finally ready to roll out and it's properly labeled as the Lexus LC 500. Lexus states that this is their most "athletic" flagship coupe yet, and it looks to be that way. We can definitely see the direction they want to take for their future production cars.
Just by looking at it, we can already see the trend that Lexus is moving towards. The LC 500 sports the iconic one-piece grill and the triple LED headlights have that definitive sharp look that the other models have as well. The whole body of the car is designed with aerodynamics and performance in mind. The LC 500's interesting lines and curves makes it look modern, but pretty aggressive at the same time. Above all that, the rear diffuser and active rear spoiler help manage the airflow and keeps the car planted on the ground.
Lexus is known for being quite luxurious, so it makes sense that even their flagsip coupe will provide excellent support and unbeatable comfort. Aside from comfort, the engineers working on the LC 500 wanted to make the drivers feel like they were in a proper sportscar so they designed the cockpit in an interesting way. "In fact, for LC 500, the driver's hip point was engineered to be as close as possible to the vehicle's Cg (Center of gravity) where feedback from the car is the most communicative to the driver." All this was researched and designed so that the car can feel engaging and responsive.
The mechanics of the LC 500 is what really makes it shine as a true flagship coupe. The sportscar will boast the same 5.0-liter V8 engine that is found in the RC F and the GS F. The engine can produce 467 HP and 389 lb.-ft of torque. Being a naturally aspirated V8, you can bet that the high-revving engine will sound absolutely fantastic. In addition to that, the car has special exhaust sound-control valves that activates on start-up. This makes the car roar, especially during acceleration as a Sound Generator kicks in to ehance the overall melody of the exhaust sound. The most important feature, however, is the fact that the LC 500 will sport a 10-speed automatic transmission system, the first to appear in a luxury sportscar. Lexus claims that it rivals that of a dual-clutch transmission. Along with the new electronic control system, this car will be able to really move!
The Lexus LC 500 is definitely one of the most interesting cars we've seen at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show. It is truly a modern car, both in design and capability. In addition to that, we can naturally assume the same level of reliability and luxury that Lexus provides in all of their production cars.
