2011 - May Chop of the Month

Hello there and please delight yourself with a glass of .. something, because this time you really have some interesting stuff to read (not that the others were boring, were they??). Get comfy on your chair and let's give it a go.
As a 1st, finally hard work paying off, in the Streets, our own trully "chopping whore", ta2man, finally got under spotlight, featuring his show car Buick Riviera.
With 3 features this month, in the Carshow, comes our trully talented DragonForce, with a stunning representation of a JDM Scirocco.
1st, I would like to congrat the next contestant, dem_fuzl, which got promoted to Advanced Carshow, featuring his awesome Avalanche VW Golf R32.

Now, the featuring:

Streets Chopper: ta2man

Q: What or who made you use Photoshop?
A: Well I originally started using photoshop for Tattooing mostly cut and paste and putting things together for clients. I had no idea there was another world out there or how many powerful uses there was for it. Then I found the PS-G forum and was hooked.

Q: When did you start virtually modifying cars?
A: I've been chopping cars for almost a year and a half now I think. At least steady that is.
Q: Where do you get your inspiration from?
A: Alot of my inspiration comesfrom other choppers in the forum. Mostly by taking there critiques and applying it to the next chop. I would say any chopper that gets offended by a critique shouldn't chop or be apart of forums.

Q: What's your average time spent on a chop?
A: Average time spent on chops is between 4-20 hours.

Q: You consider negative comments as an insult towards the work, respectively to the artist?
A: Negative comments are usually constructive with an intention to help chopper to improve. Just few percent of them are from jelausy or disrespect. Sometimes others just doesn't like your work, so they give some negative comments about it, nothing to be concerned about. If comments is written in constuctive way, then I don't take it as an insult, it helps you to improve, because others see your work in a diffrent perspective and from a diffrent point of view.
Q: Less high quality parts or more low quality parts on a chop? Quality or quantity?
A: I admit, it used to be more less quality parts and more quantity, but now it's the other way around. I think its better to put only nice rims, which fits 100 % and change background, which fits, then making full brush which looks nonrealistic or bumpers which doesn't fit to car shape. But that is the thing you learn as a chopper in your chopping career, at some point you begin to understand the whole process of chopping better and then result are nicer every time.

Q: You think that comments help artists improve?
A: Of course, every comments counts. If the person who is writing comment takes time to write it in helpfull way, then even more.

Q: What's your chopping plans for 2011?
A: My plans in general are to improve in full brush, to have more time to chop and to not lose ideas for chops. If I go into details, then my plans are, full brush of Nissan S15 in JDM style, haven't made this one yet. Next one is probably one of the muscle cars, Camaro or Challenger in full glory, with candy red and polished rims.
I'll try to make another matte black chop, besides my police EVO X. That is the plan for few next ones, after that we'll see.

Q: You consider negative comments as an insult towards the work, respectively to the artist?
A: Depends on how "negative" the comment is. If the mistakes are pointed out, it's not an insult, but if the comment is ironic, that could mean an insult. Sometimes I've noticed that envy is the one that pushes some to insult other artists more advanced than them, using acid comments, even if they don't really got a solid ground, most of the time being subjective or imaginary.

Q: Less high quality parts or more low quality parts on a chop? Quality or quantity?
A: I've reached a point where I only want quality. A while ago I had my own target, 1 chop/week, but I couldn't keep up and I couldn't hold the quality line. Now I think that a single chop per month is more than enough, well, must be as close to flawless as it could. 1 great chop can push a chopper to improvement, way better than 5 worse ones.

Q: You think that comments help artists improve?
A: Same as 1st question, it's all about comments. If they are on point, they can help a chopper improve, that being available only if the artist takes them in count and use them for future projects and not making the same mistakes. Sure there are exceptions, some artists are selfish and don't really like or help others improve.
Q: What's your chopping plans for 2011?
A: Got some older WIPs, with good ideas, that need to finish.

Here yo go fellas, this ends this month's CoM.
I really like answers, each artists has his own way to answer the same questions, it's good to know each other's thinking, I really hope this is educative and you catch small ideas.

Remember: Design must be subjective, but don't fall into the "selfishness" zone!
