PC BUILD - Intel 2600k

Postby illusionest » Tue May 22, 2012 5:53 pm

Hello!!!

Time to upgrade my other computer big time.
I usually dont upgrade computers until really necessary (e.g. when they start failing on me), but, i have a very large client project that's demanding powerful hardware, and fortunately, the costs are covered! woohoo!

Im not sure if i will be building an entirely new PC and leaving the one i have now OR
replacing and gutting it out. I guess it depends how many parts i can use?

So far, besides the ones listed below, i can reuse the following:
Case, Hard drives, maybe power supply? graphics card.

PROCESSOR
Im currently using the good ol' Q6600, its fantastic, i love it, but its too slow.
time for this bad boy
http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_ ... _id=035533

Intel 2600! at $290

Now here's where i need your help, MOBO, RAM, and CPU Fan.

Motherboard
I need a motherboard that works well with the 2600.
Most importantly, i dont want any stupid limit (e.g. 4GB) on the RAM i can use - like the gay mobo i have now...
Something with up to 16GB RAM or unlimited would be perfect.

RAM
I know this is sad, but my other computer is still using DDR2. I think i should use DDR3 with the new chip.
Doesnt need a lot - the software i use is very processor demanding. I save all my precious RAM for my main computer, the wacom one, photoshop machine.

CPU FAN
At the moment im using the arctic cooling freezer 7 pro. Shall I get another one? (probably should that way i can just build an entirely separate computer) what recommendations?

POWER SUPPLY
Im open to case suggestions too.

CASE
open to suggestions, if necessary.

Not for gaming! this is a pure CAD, 3D Modeling, Rendering, animation machine!!

Thanks guys!!!

I'll look into something later today.

[EDIT]
Image

Since the cpu has a built-in graphics card, there's no need for an external one.

you sir - is awesome!

question:
http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_ ... _id=048311
http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_ ... _id=048310

right now these two are the same price because the 500W one has $10 discount. Even with the mail-in rebate (which is the same amount), its also the same price. Should i go for the 500 or 400?

I also may need another alternative for RAM:
http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_ ... _id=040889

this is unavailable (0) at my location :(
Any recommendations from OCZ?

just a quick note to add:

I ended up exchanging my two Cooler Master red LED fans for two 120mm Enermax, manual power control fans.
The cooler master fans were WAAAYYYY too loud. I was vacuuming my floor and i could still hear my machine. Yes, the fans were louder than my VACUUM. RIDICULOUS.

So now the enermax fans are MUCH better. I quite enjoy using them. :-)

I was able to lead the controls / knobs to outside my case so i can control the power whenever i want easily.
